I grew up on the Gold Coast and know the feeling of walking across the dunes and down to the beach quite well. Along the coastline, residents and visitors get to experience this glorious transition every day. The paths leading down to the beach are ever changing, with increased dune protection and rehabilitation implemented over the past decades, access is clearly defined, the dunes are well respected, and rightly so. These paths are also varied, and sometimes go unnoticed by those walking from grass or concrete onto sand, especially with eyes locked on the surf.

In January 2025 I commenced a documentary style project to systematically capture the beauty of beach access paths along the Gold Coast using medium format, black and white film. Since then, Cyclone Alfred gauged the entire SEQ coastal region causing significant beach erosion. While this project will pause, I believe it’s more relevant than ever.
